Working Up a Sweat

I really enjoy working out, always have.  However, since I was about 8 weeks pregnant, I really haven't been working out.  The nausea, throwing up, tiredness, etc. made me kinda lazy.  Plus it was cold outside and after getting home from work the last thing I wanted to do was to go back out into the cold.  Well, the weather is finally warming up and I feel a lot better than I felt back then.  Eric and I have been going on walks at night, which have been really great, but I felt like I needed a little more.  Plus, we have this wellness challenge going on at work, and I have to count my steps every day.  Let's just say it's sad.  Last year during this challenge I was training for my triathlon and I killed it!  Well, I decided to change that this past Tuesday.  I was sitting at work thinking about how I want to be in shape after this little guy comes, and that the more I do now, the easier it will be then.  I was determined to go to the gym that day and use the elliptical.  I'm not really a fan of ellipticals but running on a treadmill is just out the of question.  It hurts my tummy!  I decided to run for 30 minutes to see how it goes.  The first 3 minutes were fine, and then my legs starting to get really tired.  My legs are the strongest part of me, so it was weird!  I was taking it easy because I'm short of breath these days.  Now those of you who know me pretty well, know that I'm quite competitive.  There was this girl next to me who was running so fast!  Usually I would try to match the person's speed or go a little faster.  I just had to not pay attention to her and concentrate on taking it easy and not dieing.  Well, I made it through the 30 minutes.   This is how I felt:

I was SO tired!!  I felt like I had run a marathon or something.  My legs felt like Jell-O when I got off to walk and I was SO hungry.  I made it to the car and scarfed down my snack.  I drove home, and by the time I got there I was a little shaky.  Good thing Eric was making me dinner!  Once I got more food in me I felt much better.  However, I was exhausted the rest of the night.  My body wasn't used to that much movement.  It's sad but true.  Well, my goal is to now make it to the gym 3 times a week and to continue taking my walks.  I know to never push myself too hard, but I want to get moving!!  Plus, I know that exercise is good for you while pregnant and I hear it makes birth much easier on you.  Um, why wouldn't I want to work out then?

So, I'm putting it out there for the blogging world to know.  Now I feel accountable to more than just Eric and Emily (the two people I've told)!  This means I have to stick to it!  I'll let you know how it goes.

You go girlfriend! But don't kill yourself!! If your heartrate gets too too high it's not good for baby, so keep that in mind. Good girl for ignoring Ms. Runner next to you. You are such a good mama already! Way to be healthy for your little peanut.
