Cute Smiles

Today I was playing with Travis and wanted to take a picture of him wearing cute little khaki shorts.  Whenever I pull out my camera he usually goes straight-faced, but not today!!  He let me get two cute smiles.  Check them out:

Oh he melts my heart...

Teething = HORRIBLE

I have always heard that teething is not a fun thing for both baby and parent.  I now can say for certain that it is not fun AT ALL!!

Two blog posts ago I mentioned how Travis had decided to only take thirty minute naps.  I thought it was because he didn't want to be swaddled, and so I started doing what it took to break him of that habit.  He wasn't taking to that very well and after a few days of a lot of tears, I went to a cooking group with some women at church and was talking to them about what was going on.  They told me that it could be teething or an ear infection.  I didn't think it was an ear infection because he didn't really have any symptoms for it.  I let the bad sleeping go for a few days and then I was going to call the Pediatrician.  Well, one week from when the bad naps started, I was at Costco and was trying to make Travis smile.  It was then that I noticed a kind-of white bump in his mouth.  I looked this up online and it turns out the white bump is what shows before a tooth breaks!  Well that would explain the poor naps AND the night waking (he is a good night sleeper).  Well, I kept questioning myself because the bump was sometimes hard to see, then on Saturday, 3/17, Eric felt his gums and sure enough a tooth!  That sucker is sharp.  It's nice that it broke through, but those front teeth come in two's, so now we're waiting for that second one to come and the poor sleeping and occasional crankiness persists.  Middle of the night crying is so hard to deal with.  Luckily Eric is helpful even though he has to go to work.  It wouldn't be so horrible if I could take a nap, but by the time I'm falling asleep, Travis is waking up.  It's SO HARD!!!  I have to keep telling myself that this is just a phase and that his good sleep will return (fingers crossed.)  Until then, I'm trying to get all of the sleep that I can.

I would show you a picture but he will barely ever keep his tongue back long enough for me to get a look.  Maybe I can get a good picture when the teeth come up more.  Oh how I'm going to miss that all gum smile.  It's so sweet...

6 month check-up

Travis had his 6-month check-up on Tuesday.  Time is going WAY too fast.  His stats are as follows:

Weight: 20 lbs, 1 oz. (88%)
Height: 28.25 in. (96%)

He's a BIG BOY!!  I love that he's so big.  I love the little rolls on his arms, legs and belly.  They are just delicious.  The doctor checked him out and said that he is a healthy little boy and that we're doing a good job. That made me feel good.  I'm trying to be the best mom I can be and it's good to know that something I'm doing is working!!  After I asked like 20 questions (Eric thinks I'm crazy, haha!) Travis got his 6-month shots.  They didn't go as smoothly as the previous two visits, but I think he was a little tired and hungry by the end.  He screamed when he got pricked and then kept crying until I picked him up and then a little after that.  He calmed down soon after but I haven't heard him scream like that in a long time.  Poor baby.  He now has little bruises on his legs where the shots were.  Sad.  One funny thing is that later that night when I went to give him a bath I took off his band-aids and noticed that one of them was TAZ!  This is funny because his initials are TAZ and before he was born we said we would call him TAZ.  We only call him that every once in awhile, but we thought the band-aid was perfect for little man.

His next appointment is in June, and there won't be any shots at that one.  Yay!!

I love my growing boy.

I Almost Forgot...

So remember my post last week talking about my new blogging approach?  Well, I almost forgot about it this week.  I have gotten so used to not blogging that I just didn't think about it until I sat down at my computer to do something else, and BAM! I remembered.  Ha!

Anyways, this week has been an interesting one.  Travis has decided that sleeping for more than thirty minutes at a time during the day is totally over-rated (I don't agree) and I don't know if it's because he doesn't like his swaddle anymore, or something else.  Everything is like a guessing game at this age.  I hope we figure it out soon though because he needs to sleep more.  He's been pretty happy regardless though.  He's such a sweet boy.

Last Friday, 3/2, we gave Travis his first taste of solid foods: rice cereal.  He loves it!  His first bite wasn't as funny as I thought it would be, but I think it's because rice cereal doesn't have much flavor.  Maybe when we give him other stuff we'll got those awesome baby faces.  Now he knows what's coming when you put him in his high chair and he gets excited and opens his mouth waiting for us to feed him.  He whines between bites if you aren't going fast enough.  It's funny.  I'm glad he's doing well with solids.  This video is from Eric's phone which is why it's sideways.  I had one on our video camera but it won't upload for some reason.  Sorry!

Mid-"chew"

We bought Travis some sun glasses the other day.  He looks so cute.  He loves to look around when we go for walks but if the sun is in his face he gets annoyed because I have to block his view.  Solution: sunglasses.  He doesn't keep them on very well though.  He thinks it's more fun to eat them.  Actually, we went for a 45 minute walk on Monday and he kept them on the whole time.  A whole bunch of people kept telling me how awesome he looked (duh! He's always cute, haha!).  He really does look so cute in them though.

In other news:  I am going to cancel my gym membership.  It is so hard to get to the gym with a little guy and no one to watch him during the day.  Eric is busy on Tuesday and Thursday nights until 10. Wednesday he's gone until 8:45ish.  He's also busy on Saturday mornings.  So, all of the other times he's home I could go, but I kinda want to spend some time with him...  Therefore, I decided to buy some workout videos and a jogging stroller and do my working out from home.  I'm kinda kicking myself for not investing in a nice jogging stroller from the beginning, because now I have two strollers worth the same price of a nice BOB stroller.  Oh well.  I'm just lucky that I have the two.  Now I really have to hunker down and start working out...  Luckily one of me best friends, Lisa, is helping to motivate me to work-out and eat healthier.  Swim suit season is coming and as of right now, I don't want anyone to see me in a swimsuit.  Alright, enough of that...

Well, that's all for this week!  Happy Daylight Savings!

New Blogging Approach

As you could tell, I have become even worse of a blogger than I was before.  I haven't even blogged about our Christmas (which was fantastic).  I decided I need to have a different approach to blogging since my current approach obviously wasn't working.  After having lunch with two friends, and blog followers, they helped me to feel good about my new approach.  So here it is.  I am going to try to do a photo of the week blog.  Obviously I will try to blog once a week, but no promises.  I just want to have some memories on this blog because I want to make a book out of it one day.  So, I am going to try this.  Wish me luck and get excited to see more pictures of the cutest little boy in the world.  Since it's been awhile, I will add a few photos to make up for the lack of posts. (I apologize if you've already seen some on Facebook)
